2011 Program
STUDENT TESTIMONIALS
"The trip was one in a lifetime experience that I would love to do again. There was so much to learn in such as short amount of time and I wish there was more time to spent to learn more about the culture, food, and daily life of students as well as people in China. The last day was amazing yet tiring. We went to ITRI, TSMC, AUO, National Central University, and finally the night market. All interesting companies especially ITRI and AUO from the last day in Taiwan in terms of the products they are working on as well as the company vision. Although the trip was brief and short, I am seriously considering at some point in time to furthering my studies in Taiwan or China, if not somewhere in Asia." - Alben Cheung
SUMMARY OF PROGRAM
Global Technology Initiative (GTI) program sponsored the 2011 study tour for 23 students (17 from engineering, 6 from other colleges) to conduct a study tour in China and Taiwan from May 26 to June 9, 2011. The students were selected based on their potential to be benefited from the trip, and become global leaders in the future. Other criteria include academic achievement, entrepreneurship, and their responsiveness to global economy and culture. Scholars enrolled in a full semester course, Tech 198, for a comprehensive preparation for this study tour.
The program gave scholars the opportunity to experience first-hand global technology, culture, history, economy and life style in Asian countries. This extraordinary journey took them to 7 different cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Taipei, Keelung, Hsinchu and Taoyuan. Scholars toured 18 high-tech American and local companies, 4 universities and a number of prominent historical and cultural landmarks.
